Analog Photography

Our world consists of pictures – portraits, architecture, landscape, or party pictures. Digital cameras have truly revolutionized the way we take pictures and we have never taken more pictures than we do now.

At Rønshoved Højskole, however, we want to turn time and speed back a few decades and photograph rather than take pictures. We bring you back to the roots of photography and work with analogue photography in black and white. By deselecting the colors, our view of the world around us is sharpened even more and we become aware of our surroundings in a completely different and deeper way.

You will learn to work with celluloid film, use enlargers and develop on photographic paper in our darkroom. You will find that there is nothing more fascinating than putting a seemingly white piece of paper in a liquid and suddenly your images appear. Of course, we also work with the composition of images, the relationship between shutter speed and aperture value and all the other techniques needed to create aesthetic masterpieces. And although you may still take most photos with your mobile phone on a daily basis, you can use the same techniques and principles – analogue as digital. Did you know that most of the filters you can put on your photos on the mobile phone were considered “faults” in development in the ‘analogue age’?

In order to take the analog photography class, you need to have your own analog camera – maybe your parents or grandparents have one lying around? Otherwise, we will be happy to help you find a good and cheap camera that can easily compete with the most expensive digital cameras on the market.

Costs for all materials are included in your stay at Rønshoved.
