Jesper Kragh

Teacher

Jesper Kragh (b. 1988) is originally from Skanderborg in East Jutland where he studied religious and musicology at Aarhus University after completing high school. He has also studied at the Church Music School as an organist.

For many years, he has accompanied various choirs and performed concerts with them both domestically and internationally, among many places: China, USA, Austria and Middelfart. When not engaged in these activities, he was involved in the Grundtvigian lecture association Studenterkredsen, where theology, history, aesthetics, and culture were discussed in an attempt to bring the best from the folk high school to the university. Now, the movement is going the other way.

He has a keen interest in cultural and intellectual history, and in the recent years, he has focused his energy on the history of songs, particularly the history of the Folk High School Songbook. He is especially interested in the many forgotten songs and songbooks that preceded the songbook as we know it today. Consequently, he has an extensive collection of songbooks from the 19th century.

When Jesper is not teaching or playing for communal singing, he can typically be found with a book or a cup of coffee in his hand. Or both.
