Notre Dame
On our trip to Paris, we will, of course, visit Notre-Dame.
With a birth year of 1163, Notre-Dame is among the oldest buildings in Paris. The magnificent structure was no less than 200 years in the making before the final details were in place.
Standing outside the cathedral, you are greeted by one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. Step inside, and you will experience beautiful stained-glass windows and rich sculptural decorations.
The cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, holds a rich history. During the French Revolution in 1789, it suffered extensive damage. Just 15 years later, the cathedral served as the setting for Napoleon I's self-coronation as Emperor in 1804.
During World War II, the cathedral rang its bells to mark the liberation of Paris on August 25, 1944.
Most recently, the cathedral was struck by a major fire in its roof and spire in 2019, after which President Emmanuel Macron immediately declared that the burned parts of the cathedral would be rebuilt so that today it once again stands in all its glory.
Versailles
An incomparable masterpiece awaits us when we head to the truly special and absolute grand Palace of Versailles.
Versailles is located just 17 km outside of Paris.
Versailles was originally built as a small hunting lodge by Louis XIII, whose son Louis XIV had far greater ambitions for the site. Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King, initiated the massive construction of the Palace of Versailles.
Among other historic events, the palace served as the setting for the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783, when Great Britain recognized the independence of the North American colonies during the American Revolution, and it remained a royal residence until the French Revolution.
Here, we will get to experience the 78-meter-long Hall of Mirrors, view the Royal Chapel, and admire the unique Palace Gardens.

The River Seine
From east to west, the River Seine carves its path through the heart of Paris. The breathtaking river splits the city in two, with two islands nestled right in its middle.
While the river today offers Parisians a place to enjoy life along the Seine, it has historically been defining for the city's development.
We will, of course, learn about how the river has divided the city into distinct neighborhoods and experience several of the historic sites located on the island of Île de la Cité—said to be the birthplace of the city's first settlement, later serving as the fortified center in late Roman times and the core of the city in the Middle Ages.
We will explore both by land and by sea. With firm ground under our feet, we will discover the vibrant life along the riverbanks, which offers everything from locals out for a run, café and restaurant visits, and sunbathing to book stalls. On a boat trip, we will take in the beauty of the city from a whole new perspective along a small stretch of the nearly 800-kilometer-long river.
Together with friends
