Creative workshop

In the Creative Workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to disappear for two hours into a creative universe, where your hands and senses come to life, while your busy mind can take a break. Together, we will explore, investigate, and try out various craft techniques.

In the autumn session, our focus is on natural materials. We’ll venture into nature to collect materials for use in our lessons. We may make wreaths from natural materials, bind grain sheaves for the birds, weave small containers using Nordic-style or bark weaving, and create small, wrapped baskets from corn husks, straw, and reeds. Of course, there will also be time to carve pumpkin heads and weave Christmas hearts, stars, and cones out of paper and bark before the holidays.

In the winter session, our focus shifts to recycled materials. Here, we’ll rethink old techniques and try weaving baskets from pleated blinds, old newspapers, or strips. We can experiment with collage, creating new artworks from old magazines, glass shards, stones, and more! We might choose to paint on stones, roll beeswax candles, or paint with coffee, tea, juice, etc. On sunny days, it will be perfect to see if we can find art in the materials on the beach.

In the spring session, we’ll head back out into nature to gather flowers and leaves, which we’ll press and use to create collages and pictures. We may weave fresh willow into flower pots, harvest bark for bark weaving, weave flower crowns, and revisit techniques and activities from previous sessions. If you feel like working creatively in an experimental, playful way, where there’s no set outcome for your work and where the aim is to stimulate play, process, and imagination, then the Creative Workshop is perfect for you.
